DriveScore
Car Insurance. Reimagined.
I led the end-to-end design of DriveScore, shaping the concept, product, and visual direction from initial idea through to launch. Car insurance is still largely based on broad assumptions rather than how people actually drive. DriveScore was created to challenge this—using telematics to give drivers a fairer, more transparent way to understand and improve their score, independent of insurers.

Opportunity
Driving Safer, Together
ClearScore identified an opportunity to use its scale and trust with over 16 million UK users to rethink how car insurance works. My role was to take that proposition and shape it into a product experience that felt consistent with the ClearScore ecosystem.
Idea
Telematics, Reimagined
Using your phone to automatically detect driving behaviour, I designed a system where drivers receive an anonymised DriveScore based on their performance, along with a clear breakdown after each journey. This score can be shared with insurers to access fairer, more personalised pricing—without being locked into a single provider. The focus was on making telematics simple, transparent, and aligned with ClearScore’s approach, putting users in control while maintaining privacy and independence.
Vision
Driving the Future of DriveScore
I shaped the product beyond the initial implementation, exploring how telematics data could deliver more value over time. This led to features like driver education quizzes and a vehicle hub—helping users better understand their driving behaviour and environmental impact, while increasing engagement.
Impact
Users love DriveScore
The initial MVP exposed challenges around tracking accuracy and battery usage, which I worked closely with the team to improve. Despite this, early feedback showed strong belief in the concept. As the product matured, ratings improved to 4.1 on Trustpilot, 4.7 on the App Store, and 4.5 on Google Play, with continued iteration and growth.

Retrospective
Designing DriveScore
Before the product was built, I developed the concept, led user research, and created the pitch video that secured £1M in funding—laying the foundation for the product and its direction. Explore the full story of how DriveScore was created, designed, and built — download the case study (pdf).

My Role
My Role
Principal designer responsible for the end-to-end design of DriveScore. I took an existing telematics capability and transformed it into a product experience aligned with ClearScore’s standards—defining the experience, visual direction, and core journeys. I created the initial concept and prototype, led user research and testing, and produced the pitch video that secured £1M in funding. I worked closely with product and engineering to deliver the MVP across iOS and Android.
